I was checking out Audacity for ripping LPs to iTunes. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions for doing this?
Okay, I’ll bite!
My major computer hobby for the last three years has been importing and correcting analog audio. I’ve just about ran out of stuff to import. I’ve found that importing cassettes is far easier than records, either it works or it doesn’t. The major defect with older cassettes is that the tape head pressure pad likes to fall off, the glue fails. They are easy enough to glue back on. Superglue would likely work, although I’ve just been dabbing it with silicon caulk and letting it cure for a while. I only need one good go around anyway. The other major issue is tape drag, this often manifests after a few minutes or so, due to cheap cartridges from the plant. Double play tapes seem more susceptible to this issue too. I’m not sure if there is a fix for that, I’ve just been pitching them after a couple of failed attempts.
A few words about equipment,
it doesn’t have to be expensive, although it helps if it once wasn’t cheap.
Okay, a little gloating might be in order after the Mid-Term Massacre, but Boehner and McConnell insured that it will be short-lived.
They are determined to compromise with the socialists and Obama in the near term, and the current lame-duck is very scary. Both kept their positions in closed door meetings, with no challengers. We need leaders with a spine, and neither Boehner nor McConnell have convinced me that they possess one.
The ’14 mid-terms was an open and shut case that we the people are opposed to all of Obama’s policies. Sadly, Republican leadership seems to think that we want RINOs working with Obama.
His next tack is purported to be illegals who happened to birth a child while in the USA illegally. It is time to end the birth right policy. It is not in the Constitution, including the 14th Amendment, which is perhaps the most misinterpreted amendment in the Constitution. Birth-right citizenship first appeared in an 1895 Court decision. One of the first cases of judicial over-reach.
I am in favor of an amendment which specifies that at least one parent of any child born in the USA be citizens themselves before citizenship is conferred upon their off-spring.
Obama pledges we will reduce our carbon emission below 2005 levels, China agrees to maybe peak by 2030. They are opening a coal-fired plant every week, with no sulfur or ash controls. Sweet!
50-50 chance that Warren will be the next Dem POTUS candidate. A communist, plain and simple. I hope she is nominated. After all, you didn’t build that.
Once again I see that I’ve been negligent in updating this page, I’ve been on vacation, and there was really nothing new to report until a week or so ago with the ebola outbreak in western Africa. How did two knowledgeable American medical volunteers contract ebola to begin with?
ISIS is still running rampant in Iraq and Syria, Obama decided to flex his muscles this week and lob two missiles, taking out one artillery piece (which was no doubt ours to begin with)
Global warming is still settled science, even though this has been the coolest summer for over a decade. Get your sweaters and sweatshirts ready for next month. It’s time to build more coal-fired power plants, instead of shutting them down. We will need the clean, cheap energy.
Socialism is still trendy, even though Venezuela can’t keep the power on, and Argentina recently defaulted. The TEA Party made substantial gains in the primary season, even though many like to proclaim that it is dead.
The stage is being set for yet another Obamacare Supreme Court challenge, and this one has legs from a legal standpoint.
There’s nothing quite like living the socialist utopian dream. Argentina went into default a week or so ago too, and it is no doubt those greedy capitalist’s fault!
The people sent a message. The deliberate failure of Obama’s illegal ignoring our current immigration law, along with his recently extending the lack of enforcement of law concerning illegal alien minors for another two years certainly helped to bring about Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s defeat. Cantor tried to swing both ways on the illegal alien issue, and recently said that he wanted to work with Obama on the illegal youth (Dreamers) issue.
Our borders are now being over-whelmed by children, and the Border Patrol, ICE and the southwest is being turned into a giant day care facility for illegals. Sweet! They are even flying them around the country to spread the joy.
I don’t know if this is an intended (which I suspect) or an unintended consequence of Obama and DHS’ suspension of enforcement of “dreamers” which they renewed recently. I do know, as I’ve said all along, that ignoring the law is a violation of Obama’s oath to uphold the Constitution and to defend the country against all enemies.
This invasion of minors certainly seems to have been deliberate and pre-planned. DHS planned for an invasion of 65,000 illegal minors back in January. Note the date on the requisition, below:
This outrage should be at the top of the list of Articles for Impeachment, along with gun-running in Mexico, Syria and Libya, directing IRS targeting of citizens, the NSA intercepting everyone’s communications and targeting the AP and journalists, and whatever else his phone and pen has unleashed. The list is rather long.
This latest invasion of our country could have been avoided had we actually built the fence and secured our border. We’ve been waiting for that since 1986, when Reagan signed the last Amnesty bill. He later said that signing the Amnesty Bill was his greatest regret during his tenure.
There is more, but the border issue had to have played a big role in the Virginia primary results, and I hope that the Rs, including Ryan, finally start to get a clue. Andrew Breitbart is surely smiling now.
Our Dear Leader has recently threatened to take on limiting carbon emissions through regulatory agencies, since Congress “won’t act”. I’d like to remind everybody that a Democratic controlled Senate refused to ratify Kyoto years ago by a vote of 99-0.
Many, if not most people believe than man is on the road to causing catastrophic global warming, after all, Al Gore, Barack Obama and legions of others tell us incessantly that the science is settled, why there is even scientific “consensus”, even though the very concept of scientific consensus is antithetical to the concept of science itself.
Climate Forcing! Feedbacks, The PDO and The AMO! Aerosols, Greenhouse gases, the Sun and the Clouds, oh my! Don’t forget La Nina and el Nino, the Little Ice Age, and the Medieval Warming Period, to say nothing of cows belching and farting…and especially politics!

One of the most telling features of climate science is just how few climate scientists changed their minds as the evidence changed. The pause in global temperature in the last 15 years or so has been unexpected. Now we know why:

Lots has been going on, and very little has been going on. Trey Goudy is named Chairman of the Select Committee to investigate Benghazi, The EPA has been asking human subjects to stick their head up a tail-pipe, and the IRS targeting seems to track directly to the White House (to the surprise of virtually no one).
The EPA has also proposed regulating (read: taxing) cow farts. And the FCC has raised the ugly head of Net Neutrality once again. Oh yes, the TEA Party is not dead yet.
Speaking of Fast & Furious, I remember raising my eyebrows when I heard reports of an early Secretary of State speech in Mexico City inn early 2009. She said, “Our insatiable demand for illegal drugs fuels the drug trade,” Mrs. Clinton said, using unusually blunt language. “Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the deaths of police officers, soldiers and civilians.”
Besides the obvious, which is, if we controlled our borders this wouldn’t be happening, my second thought was that legal semi-automatic firearms sold in the US would not be at the top of any drug cartel’s wish list. Much better would be Mac10s, Uzzis, and AK47s from black market sources, which would also be cheaper than US AR-15s when purchased in bulk.

Judging by her statements in Mexico City, Hillary must have been in the loop on fast & Furious as well. No other logical conclusion can be reached.
The Obama administration announces on March 24 that Project Gunrunner will be expanding: “March 24, 2009: David Ogden, deputy attorney general at the time, stated, “The president has directed us to take action to fight these cartels and Attorney General Eric Holder and I are taking several new and aggressive steps as part of the administration’s comprehensive plan.””
“DOJ’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is increasing it’s efforts by adding 37 new employees in 3 new offices using $10 million dollars in Recovery Act funds and redeploying 100 personnel to the southwest border in the next 45 days to fortify it’s Project Gunrunner- which is aimed at disrupted arms trafficking between the United States and Mexico. ATF is doubling it’s presence in Mexico itself, from 5 to 9 personnel working with the Mexicans specifically to facilitate gun tracing activity which targets the illegal weapons and their sources in the United States.”
