Obama has claimed on multiple occasions in the past few days that the government (partial) shutdown has been a huge drag on the economy.
I have a huge issue with that. Shutting down from 13-17% of government is not a drag on the economy, it is a drag on the government.
Where we differ is that Obama seems to believe that the government is the economy. If Obama’s government continues to devour the private sector, he may eventually be correct.
Think about it, since the melt-down in 2008, our government has taken over our auto, banking, energy, and health industries, and have been issuing hundreds of thousands of “common sense” regulations every where else.
What is left to take over? Student loans? Sorry, they already did that under Obamacare.
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”
Weird, isn’t it? We actually exceeded the debt ceiling about five months ago
We’re just asking our kids and grand-kids to pick up the tab, if we ever actually allow our economy to work again. If not, then we are all screwed.
The Senate roll call on S. 1572, the Reid-Boehner shut-down bill.
Obama and Reid are deliberately throwing this country, not only into a debt crisis, but into a Constitutional crisis. They are attempting to usurp the powers of the House in favor of the Executive, deliberately creating a crisis simply for cheap political gain. Here are five minutes everyone should take the time to watch.
“What the president threatens to do would be catastrophic and unprecedented,” McClintock said. “The full faith and credit of the United States is what gives markets the confidence to loan money to the federal government. Even the threat of default, exactly the kind the president is now making, could have dire consequences to a nation that now owes more than its entire economy produces in a year.”
If there is no agreement on the debt ceiling, and Obama refuses to service our debt, Articles of Impeachment should be drawn up immediately for failure to uphold the 14th Amendment. Rep Tom McClintock gets it. Now you can too.
If this is in the bill, it is even worse than I thought
“The plan includes a proposal offered by McConnell in the 2011 debt ceiling crisis that allows Congress to disapprove of the debt ceiling increase, which means lawmakers will formally vote on whether to reject a debt ceiling increase until Feb. 7. Obama can veto that legislation if it passes. If Congress fails as expected to gather a two-thirds majority to override the veto, the debt ceiling would be raised.”
It is as bad as above, and more. The McConnell proposal which he submitted in 2011 is included in the Bill, it gives the POTUS the power to suspend the debt limit, which both Houses of Congress may object to. The only members who may do anything are the Speaker and Majority Leader, and it will be a straight up or down vote. No amendments, no debate, nothing. The POTUS will obviously veto since he requested the suspension to begin with, at which point Congress must over-ride the veto with a 2/3 vote in both houses. This is Unconstitutional in every respect, we can only hope that the Supremes will agree to hear on an expedited basis, as they did during Gore v Bush in 2001.
See “Default Protection Act of 2013” beginning on page 24 in the above link.
I was holding out hope for the Minority Leader, but this does it for me. Mitch is running around bragging about how he saved the nation from a catastrophe, what he gave us is much, much worse.
Obama’s top adviser Valerie Jarrett was behind a plan to force a showdown with Republicans over ObamaCare as part of a strategy to regain Democratic control of the House next year, claims author Ed Klein.
It was Jarrett who advised Obama that voters would mostly blame Republicans if the federal government ground to a halt, providing a golden opportunity to swing back control of the House to Democrats in the 2014 mid-term elections, according to Klein.
The whole shut-down was pre-planned by Obama and Jarrett. Mainly Jarrett
Words of wisdom from James Madison in Federalist 47:
“The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”
The TEA party is the party that establishment Democrats and Republicans both love to hate.
We ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.

in clear violation of the Hatch Act
We can’t have anyone finding out how much this screwed up mess actually costs, now can we?
Whine, whine. You voted for him, buddy. Don’t purchase, and don’t pay the fine? Good luck with that!
This POTUS issue is still not settled yet
I am a tribal member, and I support the Redskins
GM cannot make the domestic production targets and still turn a profit. It wants to be spared the embarrassment of having everyone know that. Obama doesn’t want the embarrassment, either. So both buried the news.
