An Open Letter to Rush

Trump isn’t getting Cheated. He’s Demonstrating Presidential Incompetence.

I’ll keep this short. Donald Trump is crying about losing delegates and being cheated by the RNC, the “Establishment,” and Ted Cruz. His fans are up in arms over it. The reality is that they should be questioning their candidate’s ability to adapt to the role of President of the United States based upon the complete and utter incompetence that he’s demonstrating in this campaign.

I stumbled upon this first person account of our republican democracy in action, with the header, “Please Share”, so here goes an open letter to Rush on the Colorado Caucus:

I was listening to Rush and Beck this morning and was about ready to spit nails. The misinformation is staggering and the media reports are wrong wrong wrong! I had to set the record straight, so use t an email to Rush. It does describe the process we went through. I will work this into a more personal account with pictures later but in the meantime, would you help me get this viral? I don’t hear any voices speaking for the truth!

Rush,

Long time listener Rush. Avidly since the Gore/Bush election. Our 15 year old son is a Rush baby and we love your Rush Revere books. Christian homeschooling constitutional loving family.

This morning listening to your show from Colorado I was very frustrated about the misinformation going on. I wanted to clarify and bring you a different, eyewitness account.

My husband and I were state delegates at Colorado’s convention on Saturday and we voted for a slate of Cruz delegates.

Back in August the party leadership saw that there were many contenders for the office of President. They did not want our state to be stuck with a candidate who would not be on the ballot. They had the foresight to see that this would go to a contested ballot. They wanted Colorado to make a decisive difference in the national election. They didn’t want our votes to be wasted, like last time we voted for Rick Santorum and the delegates were stuck.

This had nothing to do with Trump. He wasn’t the front runner then!

The Colorado Republican Party is very conservative. We live in El Paso County which is the 4th largest Republican county in the nation. We are especially ultra conservative.

So this is what happens with our caucus system and my husband and I were a part of it.

On March 1, we went to our precinct meeting. 19 members were present. We took an unofficial straw poll. Cruz won. We debated, spoke up for our candidates.

A couple of Trump supporters expressed interest in running for state delegate. It was at that point I realized if I really believed in something I had to stand up for it.

In our estimation, Trump is fake, he is not a true conservative. Cruz is. I expressed my interest to run and we had a three-way race.

When it was my turn to speak, I held up my pocket constitution and spoke from my heart. “See this constitution? We need to get back to following it. I am a constitutional conservative and this is why I support Cruz.”

I won by a landslide. My husband was voted as an alternate. The people there were very concerned about Trump and wanted Cruz.

A few weeks later I went to a house division meeting as I also volunteered to be a precinct leader. Most of the precincts were also very much for Cruz.

So before the convention on Saturday my husband and I did our homework. We found the slate of national delegates that were coordinating with Cruz. We wanted to vote for reliable national delegates who would not be swayed.

So on Saturday out of over 500 national delegates running, we chose the slate and those we knew were for Cruz. A majority of others did also.

As a state delegate I had a responsibility to my precinct. I carried it out faithfully. The voters DID have a voice. Any voter could have gone to the caucus and express their preference then vote for state delegates. That’s how my husband and I got there. The party didn’t place us there to vote for Cruz. Voters placed us there. And this was duplicated in a majority of precincts.

Now if you had been at the convention you would have seen that the majority of the state delegates were for Cruz. We outnumbered Trump and Kasich by a very clear margin. The place went nuts when Cruz came and spoke. The place had so much energy and a desire to get back to the constitution that it was a beautiful thing!

We are different here in Colorado. When the RNC created a rule from 2012 that national delegates had to be bound to a certain candidate on the first ballot they made that decision in August to get rid of the official straw poll.

I grant that it was poorly communicated; however from my recollection of voting by the time Colorado gets to the primary the candidate has already reached 1237 votes so it doesn’t make a difference anyway.

That is what really happened. If you doubt me, one lone voice in the Colorado wilderness standing up for what I believe in, contact the Colorado chairman Steve House.

This system of republic government is beautiful and Colorado Republican leaders, especially in El Paso, are unabashed Christ-followers. This was demonstrated by the unabashed Christian leaning in the convention: the invocation by a pastor who prayed in Jesus’ name and then the chairman stopped the convention to have the same pastor come out and say anotherprayer for a gentlemen who had been injured after falling off the stage.

I’m telling you it was like a church service! We are a huge military state so it is very conservative and many people of faith belong to the party. Plus, the candidates running were very diverse: black, Hispanic, Asian, white, women, and of course a few token white men!

A black man, Darryl Glenn, who is running for US Senate to oppose Bennet, brought the house down with his speech and he won a clear majority.

Moderates just don’t do well in Colorado, Rush!

So really it is no surprise that we had a Cruz sweep. This wasn’t what the “party bosses” decided. It was what the grassroots decided. Republic politics at its best because it was truly “We the People.”

Thanks for listening to me Rush and taking this eyewitness account into consideration! I had to set the record straight!

Love ya,

Dana Susan Beasley
